As I was going through the links and
checking things this
morning,
I thought I had a 'Wow'
moment. Ripoffreport.com
appeared to be gone, non-functional, demised or even worse. Turns out
they are still up and running; but their server being down for that
period of time caused me to 'google' them to determine that I had the
URL link entered correctly. The Google responses surprised me a bit.
As a bit of background: Ripoffreport.com is one of the sites I
have linked on my Consumer Issues Page.
Consumers, whistle blowers and company insiders are using
ripoffreport.com as a venue to get their word out. It was selected as a
link because their postings and information have given me a lot of
insight and awareness about how companies really work, sometimes to
fleece us. This site has proved to be an invaluable consumer resource to
me in my personal life.I was
so surprised by the Google responses, I wanted to know more about the
company. I checked out
Wikipedia and
discovered that Ripoffreport.com is administered by
Ed Magedson.
I found that the companies which have received negative postings on
ripoffreport.com are up in arms against Mr. Magedson. There are lawsuits
and maybe even legal action. Magedson has given some
interviews and at least one site has gone up supporting his efforts:
EdMagedson.com.
There are numerous sites
and blog entries (some funded by companies with high negatives on
ripoffreport.com) calling the website
criminal and saying Mr. Magedson is nothing more than an
extortionist. Warnings
are being put up on other sites that predict dire consequences for
those who support ripoffreport.com by posting anything.
Whoa! Circle the
Wagons. Must be a lot of money involved.
Don't know the validity of any of
this back and forth stuff. It is a shame if the charges against Mr.
Magedson are accurate. Because the premise for the ripoffreport.com
web site is good and something that consumers need. More than
anything, consumers deserve to not be manipulated and the
untarnished truth (one way or another) about company services,
operations, products and performance needs to be freely available to
all. |

My main goals for this site are to provide access to information about issues
which affect us all (aging, healthcare, cost of an education, scams, etc.) and
to create a directory of those sites that I find interesting or informative.
Some of the links may have a local Lubbock, Texas or Texas slant because that is
where I am located. But the majority of the sites are not geographically
specific.
I am refining and updating daily, sometimes several times a day, as I strive to
get it all right. I do so appreciate all the input and advice given about how to
make things work better. Check back often for changes and updates.

Like a lot of us, my daily email, is full of spam. Life is becoming a cesspool

and what to do to protect yourself against the unethical practices of others.
