 Weather
Report: The wind blows a lot around here in west Texas. So, it
always pays to keep an eye on the weather. Luck have it, we have had only three major weather
situations in my Lubbock lifetime: the flood in the 50's, the
Lubbock Tornado in
1970 and the
Windy Man Fiasco in 2004.
We get some pretty strong wind gusts, more than our share of dirt storms and
even a gustnator on occasion. This year we have had lots of rain and
everything is really getting to look like a tropic zone. And, while the
heat has been up in the 90's, it has been a rather mild summer compared
to the rest of the southwest.

Sports Time: If it is all about keeping the
mind active, I have it down. The body is another matter
entirely. At my age, my idea of exercise is gathering enough
energy to mow the yard. I used to be quite a ping pong
player and bowler, back in the day. I even tried my hand at
roping and riding and I think I was a pretty fair marksman.
Nowadays, the agony of "de feet" keeps any thought of
any competitive sports at bay. So now I watch, but don't participate. The
Sports Sites listed here appeal to me because they keep me
up-to-date on the sporting world. Others offer information on
specific sports fields. |
News
Flash: I always wonder if what I read (or hear) is paid
political or corporate propaganda. But (and there is always a 'but'), I
do try to keep up with what is going on through the sites listed here. Most of
my news now comes from online sources. The Lubbock Avalanche Journal has a
pretty good site online. And, the local TV stations have web sites as
well. I am really fuzzy about who owns what stations; but it seems, at
least as far as information related to the Lubbock area, the media has
us covered in duplicate.
