Scientific Discoveries and how those can benefit mankind are the focus of the National Labs and the Technology Transfer communities. Discover what they are working on by visiting the sites shown here. And, for the most interesting of explorations, check out NASA and the other Space related sites I have listed.
I have always had an interest in science and when I worked for a company that attached my services to the SuperConducting SuperCollider project, back in the 90's, I got the pleasure of meeting some on the world's most talented physists (including 3 Nobel Laureates), some young guys from MIT and a Theoretical Physics Group, among others. I enjoyed listening to them discuss things like the search for the "top quark". What really impressed me was the way their minds worked. I remember watching once as they developed a complete project plan printout for the SSC. It took up about 4 walls of one room, about 6 feet to the floor. Amazing! Scientists from all over the world came to the SSC and worked together; it was such as sad thing to see politics shut it down. It almost cost as much to stop the project as it would have done to finish it and it lost our country a lot of stature in the scientific world, I think.
It was while at the SSC, that I became aware of the term 'Technology Transfer'. (I had an office at the Lab when I was working there and the Technology Transfer group was right next door.) They taught me a little about how the technology transfer process worked and showed me what NASA was doing at the time.

I find that some people can exist in a life of theory and be quite happy and content.
